The third molar, usually erupting between ages 17–25. Often impacted due to lack of jaw space.

Humans have up to four wisdom teeth (one per quadrant). Many people have fewer or none. Often extracted if impacted, causing infection, or pushing against adjacent teeth. Not all wisdom teeth need removal.
