The hard layer that covers the roots of teeth. Thinner and softer than enamel.
In detail
Cementum attaches to the periodontal ligament, which anchors teeth in the jawbone. Exposed cementum from gum recession is sensitive to cold and vulnerable to root caries. Cementum is slowly replaced throughout life.
