Bleeding Gums

Definition

Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing, usually a sign of gingivitis (early gum disease). Usually reversible with good oral hygiene.

In detail

Bleeding is caused by inflammation from plaque along the gumline. Two weeks of consistent daily flossing usually stops bleeding. Persistent bleeding past 3 weeks or with other symptoms may indicate periodontitis and needs professional cleaning.
