Dental Cleaning (Prophylaxis)

Definition

Professional removal of plaque and tartar above and just below the gumline. Part of every hygiene visit.

In detail

Standard cleaning uses ultrasonic and hand instruments to remove calculus, followed by polishing. Typically takes 30–60 minutes. Frequency depends on risk: low-risk patients every 9–12 months, high-risk every 3–4 months.
