Definition
The connector piece between a dental implant fixture and the visible crown. Can be stock (pre-made) or custom milled.
In detail
After implant integration, the abutment is screwed into the implant fixture. It supports the crown and ideally emerges through the gum with a shape that mimics a natural tooth contour. Custom abutments give better aesthetics, especially on front teeth.
