Day 1

  • Bite gauze 30–45 min
  • Cold compress 20 min on, 20 off
  • No rinsing, smoking, or straw use
  • Soft food
  • Prescribed pain relief

Days 2–3

  • Start gentle salt-water rinses
  • Continue soft diet
  • Swelling may peak
  • Report fever or increasing pain

Days 4–7

  • Reintroduce normal food gradually
  • Gentle brushing around site
  • Stitches (if any) dissolve or are removed at day 7

When to call

  • Severe pain past day 3 (dry socket)
  • Pus or bad taste
  • Fever
  • Heavy bleeding
