Smile Makeover Timeline: Week by Week
From first consultation to final photographs, here's exactly what a full smile makeover looks like — and why it usually takes 3–5 weeks, not one day.

Week 0 — Consultation
60–90 minutes. We take photos, a digital scan, x-rays, and listen to what you want. You see two or three possible design directions on a simulation of your own face. No drilling, no pressure.
Week 1 — Digital smile design
We build your proposed smile in 3D software, combining your face, teeth, and gum line. You see it before any commitment. Changes are made until you love what you see on screen.
Week 2 — Prep visit and trial smile
The prep visit takes 2–4 hours depending on tooth count. Teeth are gently reduced (0.3–0.5 mm for porcelain; zero for composite), scanned again, and temporary veneers are placed on all prepared teeth.
You walk out with a working smile. You live with it, eat with it, photograph it, and come back in a week with observations — shape, length, colour, speech. Any change at this stage costs nothing.
Week 3 — Refinement (if needed)
Based on your feedback, we adjust the digital file. The lab re-mills or re-prints accordingly. Sometimes this week is unnecessary if the trial was already perfect.
Week 4 — Final bonding
A 3–4 hour visit. The temporaries come off, each final veneer is tried in with water first, then with try-in paste, then bonded under rubber-dam isolation. You leave with the finished smile.
Week 5 — Bite refinement
A 20-minute check. Any small bite contact that feels "high" is polished. You're sent home with a custom nightguard impression.
Week 6 — Nightguard delivery
Your custom guard arrives. We check the fit and you start wearing it nightly.
Why not faster?
Some clinics advertise "smile in a day" — and for composite veneers, that's genuinely possible. For porcelain, a proper digital-smile-design + trial-smile process takes 3–5 weeks because:
- Lab fabrication of porcelain veneers takes 5–10 working days
- Living with the trial smile is the single best predictor of patient satisfaction
- Bite refinement after placement needs 1–2 weeks for adaptation
Rushing any of these steps is the most common cause of regret.
Preparing for the day
- No whitening for 2 weeks before final shade matching
- Plenty of hydration the day of bonding
- Comfortable clothes, a good playlist or podcast — expect 3 hours in the chair
After the makeover
Follow the veneers aftercare rules. Book your first hygiene visit at 3 months, then every 4–6 months thereafter.
