Halitosis (Bad Breath)

Definition

Persistent bad breath. Usually caused by bacteria on the tongue or between teeth, or by gum disease.

In detail

Treatable causes: poor hygiene, gum disease, dry mouth, tongue bacteria, dental infections. Tongue scraping, flossing, and treating gum disease resolve most cases. Persistent halitosis after these may indicate systemic causes like sinus infection or reflux.
