Implant Crowns: Cement vs Screw-Retained

Screw-retained crowns are retrievable; cemented crowns can be more aesthetic. Here's how to choose.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Rashid

Medical Director

Screw-retained

  • Crown is attached to abutment with a screw
  • Small hole covered with composite
  • Retrievable: unscrew to clean, repair, or replace
  • Best for: back teeth, long-term service

Cement-retained

  • Crown cemented onto abutment
  • No visible screw hole
  • Not easily retrievable
  • Best for: front teeth where aesthetics matter most

Which is better?

Modern implantology trends toward screw-retained when possible because of retrievability. Front teeth remain cement-retained when access-hole position would affect aesthetics.

Cost

Similar pricing for both: AED 3,500–7,000 for the crown portion.
